New Year, New Me.....No Thanks.

Happy New Year?!?

If you happen to notice that I am posting this nearly a week before February, you might be thinking:

It’s a bit late for “Happy New Year”.

If that was your thought, you are late to the Unpack Party, because you would’ve already realized that I am not a traditional go-by-the-rules-of-society-typa-therapist. So I’m saying “Happy New Year” delayed or not.

Deal with it.

And don’t worry, this isn’t a belated “New Year, New Me” blog about resolutions and goals. By no means am I saying that you should forgo your 2019 goals! I am in full support of you eating healthier or actually putting the seat down in the bathroom.

BUT, instead of asking what you are going to ADD into your already-busy life to make it "better", I'm going to ask you a different question. It's one that I am asking myself too.

What are you going to keep around? What do you want to bring into the New Year with you that's nourished you in 2018? What if your resolution was to simply do more of what has been working for you?

So what if it is the end of January? It’s never too late to celebrate all that you’ve done.

If you haven’t already, I want you to take a moment to write down all of the great things that have happened in your life last year and the choices and actions that YOU made that contributed to those wins!

If your relationship is going well, take note of what you've been doing that feeds into the harmony.

If you and your roomie have had a nice few months without the police being called, unpack how you got there.

If you got out of a toxic relationship, recap what helped you to leave.

If you reached a financial goal or got married to the love of your life or finally quit your miserable job, really identify what helped you to make those moves! The mindset and actions that you took to make your desires a reality in 2018 can continue to serve you in 2019.

You don't have to start with a clean slate and a bunch of new goals.

Maybe maintaining what you've achieved is more than enough. How can you do more of the same?

Soooo...get to writing down a list of what went well in 2018.

There is something to writing it down and seeing it in pen....it makes it more...well...real.

Continue to celebrate those wins in 2019. And schedule some downtown to do less. The world won't fall apart if you take some more me-time. In fact, your family, partners, friends, and coworkers will be thankful for a fully charged and nourished you!

Happy (Belated) New Year!!!!
